Why Italy?

Italy has long been one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe and indeed worldwide for many reasons; here are just a few:

  • The stunning natural landscape between the mountains, the sea and everything in between. Bears, wolves and other wildlife that are no longer found in the wild in many places.
  • Italy is a true paradise for sun-worshippers, with long, warm summers and balmy evenings, the stunning lakes in the north and over 7,000 km of coastline, much of which consists of wide sandy beaches. And, of course, let’s not forget the two large islands of Sardinia and Sicily.
  • History: Wherever you go in Italy, from north to south, east to west, you are constantly struck by the rich history this country has experienced. You come across its remnants everywhere: Roman cities and roads, Etruscan ruins, traces of the Barbarians, and so on.
  • Cities that capture the imagination, such as Rome, Florence, Verona, Naples, Venice, Ascoli Piceno and many others. The stunning squares with their outdoor cafés, the historic buildings and the narrow streets where you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time hundreds of years.
  • The warm hospitality of the Italians, who make it clear just how proud they are of their heritage and are only too happy to take you by the hand so you can share in it.
  • Nowhere else in Europe does food play such an important role in everyone’s lives as it does here; if they aren’t eating, they’re talking about food… Everyone does it – men and women, grandfathers and grandmothers, children. Don’t be surprised if you see eight friends dining in a restaurant on a weekday, talking about nothing but the food being served to them. Italian cuisine is also one of the healthiest in the world. The abundance of fresh produce and the use of delicious olive oil contribute to this.
  • The historic village festivals, the 500-year-old carnivals of Offida and Venice, the Easter processions in the villages and towns, the medieval parades, the Palios of Siena and Ascoli Piceno. The Trabocchi of Abruzzo and Molise. The Italians proudly preserve their culture.
  • Italy is also a true paradise for wine lovers. It has always been, and still is, the world’s largest wine-producing country. Until 30 years ago, these were mainly bulk wines produced for the domestic market. Nowadays, fantastic wines are made all over Italy. Who hasn’t heard of the famous Barolo, Amarone, Valpolicella, Chianti, Brunello, the newcomer Pecorino, and so on? Too many to taste them all in a single lifetime.
  • Skiing in the morning and on the beach in the afternoon – there aren’t many places in the world where you can do that. At the Majella National Park in Abruzzo, you can. Skiing with the azure blue sea in the background is a fantastic experience!

In short, there’s too much to list. Plan your next holiday in Italy and let Vai help you find the perfect accommodation!
